A series created to help you recognize the early signs of workplace discrimination that are often overlooked or ignored.
The Red Flags Signaling Workplace Discrimination
The biggest challenge employee's face when being discriminated against in the workplace, is recognizing the behavior for what it is so that they can confidently call it workplace discrimination. Many employees assume that if they are being discriminated against at work, it will be obvious. However, workplace discrimination typically begins with an inappropriate joke that no one else is bothered by or a decision that feels unfair, but must be fine since no other employee seems to question the subjective reason it's based on.
There is a comfort in believing we will recognize workplace discrimination when it happens, but this works against us when our questions or concerns are dismissed as us overreacting. Since we default to believing we would recognize and be certain if it was workplace discrimination, we are more inclined to also believe it when others tell us we're making a big deal out of something that is not a big deal.

Unfortunately, modern-day workplace discrimination is almost never as blatant and obvious as we'd like to believe it would be. Instead workplace discrimination is subtle, difficult to pinpoint and often overlooked by other witnesses who aren't negatively impacted directly. That's what makes this hurdle so difficult and why we've written this series to help you identify workplace discrimination when it happens.
Each post in this series, reviews a red flag of workplace discrimination that you should watch out for. None of this red flags alone is confirmation of workplace discrimination, but each is a sign you should begin documenting incidents and capturing evidence to see if a pattern of discrimination emerges.
What are the early signs of workplace discrimination?
We've identified four early signs of workplace discrimination and we felt each deserved a post that explains what each sign is and what it looks like in the workplace.
If you're facing discrimination, you are the only person that can prevent the company and the person discriminating against you from stealing everything you've worked for.
